Ordained in the United Church of Christ, Rev. Dorothy streutker works by day as a staff attorney with California Appellate Project, a non-profit law firm providing counsel and resources to attorneys appointed to represent condemned inmates in post-conviction litigation who are facing execution. When requested, she also provides spiritual counsel to the dozen or so death row inmates she visits at San Quentin State Prison. She has been active in death penalty defense for nearly 20 years. She is also the Criminal Justice Outreach chaplain for San Francisco Network Ministries. She strives to put spiritual issues on the radar of the criminal justice community and the death penalty on the radar of church people. Her interest is expanding to include the area of victim outreach, helping to bring the accused and the victims together in a way where peace outweighs the need for revenge.
